Summer Reading

2013 Summer Reading Program - (June 1st – September 1st)

Listed below are the requirements to participate in our summer 2013 reading program. By participating in this program girls will discover the world around them, connect with other cultures globally and expand their horizons.
The summer reading program is designed to encourage your Girl Scout to read. As with all activities, parents should be comfortable with the reading material their children choose.
Once girls have fulfilled the requirements, a patch may be purchased at any of our Girl Scout shops.

 

Requirements
  1. If you don’t have one already, research how to get a library card in your city and get a library card.
  2. Read at least 10 books of your choice selected by genre. You must select books from at least 7 different genre categories. For definitions, general information and book suggestions on the various genres, please go to:
    Biography or autobiography of a woman
    Realistic Fiction with a female character
    Mystery/Suspense
    Folk Tales or Fairy Tales
    Non-Fiction/informational
    Traditional Literature
    Historical Fiction
    Fantasy
    Science Fiction
    Poetry or rhyming
