Can I be a Girl Scout with joining a troop?

You decide how you want to participate in Girl Scouts. Some girls enjoy being a member of a traditional troop. Others prefer to join special interest groups or participate through Camps or Travel opportunities. Still others like to boldly strike off on their own and gain the benefits of membership as an independent “Juliette.” Regardless, every Girl Scout can explore her Leadership Journey through multiple Girl Scout Pathways.

Are uniforms required?

Girl Scouts at each level are only required to wear one element (Tunic, Sash or Vest) for the display of official pins and awards, during their participation in ceremonies or activities that officially represent the Girl Scout Movement. Though a unifying look for girls and adults at each level is encouraged. Click on Uniforms for a full description of the complete unifying look at each level

Where do I purchase uniform elements?

You’ll find everything you need available through our online Shop, or your area Service Center. Click here to find the Location nearest you.

How much does it cost to join Girl Scouts?

Girl Scout Membership Dues are $12* a year. This entire amount goes directly to the national Girl Scout organization - Girl Scouts of the USA. The funds pay for activity insurance for all girl and adult members, the development of Girl Scout handbooks and resource guides, and other Girl Scout program and management support that is provided by Girl Scouts of the USA to our local council - Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas.

Do I have to pay to go camp or participate in the activities?

Girl Scout Troop/group dues finance most activities with money earned through council-sponsored product sales (Girl Scout Cookies), and approved Girl Scout Troop money-earning activities. There may be some activities though, such as travel experiences, where girls may need their own money for incidentals.
