8.9.10 Take Action
On August 9, 2010 Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas had over 250 girls attend the Kick Off event for the 8.9.10 project. Thanks to every one who came. Clarice Tinsley's "Hometown Heroe's" segment will air on Monday, August 16 at 5:30 and Tuesday, August 17 at noon! Click here for photos of the event What is 8.9.10? It is a date and a commitment to community. One of our three keys to leadership is TAKE ACTION, and with this in mind, the Girl Scouts are launching a new initiative, in partnership with Frito-Lay and Kroger, that we hope will inspire our troops to step up and help their communities in a sustainable way. To build on the momentum of this event, the collection window dates will be Aug 9-Aug 23 at select 7 Kroger Stores. Read More » |

GSNETX Partners with Slant - 45
This year, GSNETX camps have partnered with SLANT-45 to participate in one of the largest community-wide service-learning projects in U.S. history. Teams of kids from all over North Texas will create and implement projects that will benefit their communities and create reflective collages that will be displayed in special, touring exhibition. Reaching All Parts of the World
Each summer, Girl Scout campers look forward to new, exciting experiences that feed their curiosity, further their sense of self, and offer opportunities for adventure. One of the ways that GSNETX ensures that camp is meeting the girls’ interests is by hiring the best camp counselors. This year at camp, girls may meet counselors from Australia, the U.K., the Netherlands, Mexico and even the Czech Republic! These women have traveled many miles away from their homes to positively impact the lives of our Girl Scouts - and we couldn’t be more fortunate to have them! Our campers will have the opportunity to learn songs from campfires across the globe, hear bedtime stories in the counselor’s native tongue, and maybe even teach their counselors some American slang terms to use when they attend their first Texas rodeo! As You Enjoy Your Summer.....
The “dog days of summer” are definitely upon us. Despite the heat, I hope you are enjoying some of the pleasures summer affords us…family dinners around the grill, sipping tea or lemonade by the pool, family vacations that offer either a peaceful escape or a new and exciting adventure, and so on. Often throughout this time of year, we find ourselves being more reflective as we watch a glorious sunset, listen to the birds sing in our backyard, or sway back and forth on our front porch swing. As you’re reflecting on your life, your family, or how quickly your children are growing up, I hope you’ll also join me in reflecting on the many benefits girls reap through their participation in Girl Scouts.

Summer is Here!
Summer is here and, of course, that means bridging ceremonies, resident camp, day and twilight camps, troop trips, AND the council and state Gold Award Ceremonies. What an honor it was several weeks ago to present the Gold Award pin to many of our 119 Gold Award recipients! Last year, only 5.4% of eligible registered Girl Scouts earned their Gold Award – or 5,500 girls nationwide. Although we continue to rank as one of the top councils in terms of the number of girls who achieve the Gold Award, the highest honor a girl can achieve in Girl Scouting, we must encourage more girls to earn their Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. We ask that you help us encourage our girls to take this important part of their Girl Scout journey. Read More » |

Spring has Sprung!
We weathered one of the snowiest winters in the history of northeast Texas. Now, we’re enjoying a beautiful spring, filled with greenery and gorgeous flowers (and for many of us, watery eyes and loads of sneezes). All of which means that summer is just around the corner – and with summer comes Girl Scout Camp!! Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas is proud to offer its resident camp at three amazing camps – Camp Bette Perot, Camp Rocky Point, and Camp Gambill. Each camp offers programs geared especially for that site, whether it’s horseback riding, animal care, arts & crafts, archery, ropes courses, sailing, kayaking, or swimming. And, for our younger first-time campers, we’re offering all things “Girly” in shorter sessions. Whatever your interests may be, resident camp provides girls an opportunity to discover their strong sense of self, connect with nature to enhance their appreciation of outdoors, and make friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
