The Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas will celebrate its 100th anniversary by honoring three Centennial Women of Distinction — Peggy Sewell, Sally Hoglund and Matrice Ellis-Kirk — at a gala Sept. 22 at Fair Park.

The Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary Experience Exhibition Preview & Dinner Under the Stars will also showcase a State Fair exhibit that celebrates the Girl Scouts’ first 100 years.

Gala attendees will get to preview the National Girl Scout Centennial Exhibition on the weekend before the fair opens.

Created and produced by Dallas-based Corporate Magic and presented by AT&T Corp., the exhibit will feature a virtual Girl Scout Troop and campfire, a replica of Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low’s home and cookie boxes large enough to walk through.

Cathy Coughlin, AT&T’s senior executive vice president and global marketing officer, is the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas 100th anniversary chairwoman. Lynn McBee is the dinner chairwoman.

All three honorees have had an impact on the Dallas community:

Sewell has volunteered and served in leadership roles with the Baylor Health Care System Foundation, North Dallas Shared Ministries, American Film Institute, Dallas Museum of Art, Junior League of Dallas, Susan G. Komen, SMU Meadows School of the Arts, the Hockaday School and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Hoglund established the Hoglund Foundation with her husband, Forrest, and has volunteered in Dallas and Houston for organizations including the Alzheimer’s Association, Dallas Heritage Village, Texas Children’s Hospital, American Cancer Society, Family Place Partners, Arthritis Foundation of North Texas and the Easter Seal Society.

Ellis-Kirk, a managing partner of diversity services for Heidrick & Struggles, also serves on the board for the North Texas Tollway Authority, UT Southwestern Medical Foundation and the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts Foundation Inc.

Tickets to the gala start at $2,500 per couple at www.statefairgirlscouts.com. Tables start at $10,000; contact Lindsay Cleland at lcleland@gsnetx.org or 972-349-2438.
