The Girl Scouts of the USA are showcasing the achievements of their first 100 years at the Hall of State at this year’s State Fair of Texas.
The Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas hosted a preview and dinner under the stars that raised more than $527,000.
Guests “camped out” in a clear tent with dinner catered by Stephan Pyles. The event was designed by Tom Addis, and Lynn McBee chaired the dinner. The 100th anniversary chair is Cathy Coughlin.
At the dinner, three Centennial Women of Distinction were honored: Matrice Ellis-Kirk, Sally Hoglund and Peggy Sewell. Real Girls honored were Barrett Cole, student council president at the Shelton School, Gabrielle “Gabby” Gafford, 12-year Girl Scout member and junior at Berkner High School in Richardson, and Sarah Felan, a varsity soccer player at Prosper High School.
The Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary Experience, presented by AT&T Inc. and supported by Thirty-One Gifts, features a digital replica of Girl Scouts’ founder Juliette Gordon Low’s home as it was in 1912 in Savannah, Ga., a mobile app scavenger hunt and life-size cookie boxes.
The exhibit runs through Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“This high-tech, interactive exhibit will immerse fairgoers in the Girl Scout experience — from its rich heritage to its ongoing commitment to develop female leadership for the 21st century,” said Coughlin, senior executive vice president and global marketing officer for AT&T.
The State Fair exhibit was created by Corporate Magic. “It’s going to be a fun, never-ending photo-op moment that will leave a lasting impression upon everyone who visits,” said Stephen Dahlem, senior creative director for Corporate Magic.
