DALLAS – July 9, 2013 – Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas (GSNETX) is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of a $5,000 grant from Texas Bank and Trust which will be used to host Money Camp in East Texas.
Money Camp is a week-long program, facilitated and written by financial experts, for Girl Scouts in grades fourth - fifth. The girls will participate in highly interactive, energetic, and fun sessions which give them the opportunity to learn and exhibit comprehensive money management behaviors.
“The Girl Scout Financial Literacy curriculum is aimed toward teaching girls basic personal finance skills relevant to their lives in order to build confidence in making sound financial decisions and to lay a solid foundation for financial self-sufficiency” said Colleen Walker, chief executive officer for GSNETX. “Ninety-two percent of girls say that anyone can be a leader, but only one in five girls believe that she has the qualities to be a good leader. In today’s challenging economy, financial literacy is one of the keys to leadership.”
While learning about goal setting and practicing money management, girls will earn their Savvy Shopper and Business Owner badges.
Money Camp will be implemented July 29 - August 2 at the East Texas Regional Center in Tyler and August 12 - 16 at Texas Bank and Trust in Longview.
