Girl Scout Junior Meghan Orlowski remembers being very scared when she was hospitalized with a severe case of pneumonia as a four year old. A cuddly stuffed animal or a fun game would have been a welcome distraction during her hospital stay. Six years later, the East Texas resident was working on her Bronze Award and knew how she could make a big difference.

Meghan and two other girls in her Girl Scout troop decided to make goodie bags for sick kids in local hospitals. They turned to family and friends for donations to buy stuffed animals, art supplies, toys, and games. They took their project a step further and asked their classmates at Cain Elementary School in Whitehouse for help and also collected donations at their church. Before they knew it donations were pouring in and Meghan’s house was filled with goodie bags.

Recently, Meghan and the other Girl Scouts delivered 184 goodie bags to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler and Mother Frances Hospital. Through her Bronze Award project, Meghan Orlowski is truly living out the Girl Scout Law to be helpful, considerate, and caring.
