What Can A Cookie Do?

We all know that Girl Scout cookies are delicious. But did you know that a Girl Scout cookie can also allow girls to dream more, have more opportunities, and give more to their communities? A Girl Scout cookie does MORE than you see!
Beginning January 6, thousands of Girl Scouts have taken over Northeast Texas, business literacy skills in hand, to promote their first business- their Girl Scout cookie sale. The Girl Scout Cookie Program is an integral part of Girl Scouts’ Business and Economic Literacy initiative for girls in grades K through 12. The program helps Girl Scouts develop five key skills, including goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.
In 2012, the Year of the Girl, Girl Scouts introduces a new cookie, Savannah Smiles, to commemorate the 100th Anniversary. Savannah Smiles are a lemony delight that will bring back warm memories of where Girl Scouts first began and are sure to make you smile.
Since its inception on March 12, 1912 in Savannah, Georgia, Girl Scouts has built girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. The Girl Scout Cookie Program is a fundamental component of a Girl Scouts’ leadership journey, supplying her with leadership skills that will provide a lifelong foundation for success.
Girl Scout troops set sales goals and follow plans to raise enough funds to support service projects, educational field trips and other leadership activities. The Girl Scout Cookie Program boosts girls’ self-esteem, encouraging them to dream big and plan a professional career path based on what they’ve learned.
Community service is also a key element of the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Through Project Troop to Troop, Northeast Texas Girl Scouts can encourage members of the community to buy Girl Scout cookies for donation to the U.S. Armed Forces. Last year, Project Troop to Troop in Northeast Texas donated more than 177,000 packages of Girl Scout cookies that were ultimately transported to service men and women at home and abroad.
