100th Anniversary Celebration Kicks Off with Announcement of AT&T as Centennial Presenting Sponsor
Girl Scouts’ 100th anniversary celebrations are off to a fantastic start! Through a successful Real Girls Real Women luncheon
in November 2011, Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas (GSNETX) raised more than $350,000, more than the luncheon has ever raised in the organization’s history.
The luncheon featured a phenomenal keynote address by tennis champion, Venus Williams, and honored outstanding women and Girl Scouts including Caroline Rose Hunt, Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient; Lynn McBee, Real Woman Award Recipient; Regina Montoya, Real Woman Award Recipient; Marisa Salatino, Real Girl Award Recipient; and Andrea Noelle Emery, Real Girl Award Recipient.
The luncheon served as the perfect venue to announce the exciting news that AT&T will serve as presenting sponsor for the 100th Anniversary Year of the Girl Celebrations, including our spectacular State Fair of Texas celebration this fall. We were also thrilled to announce that AT&T’s Global Marketing Officer and Girl Scouts of the USA board member, Cathy Coughlin, has signed on to be our Honorary Chair for GSNETX’s 100th Anniversary.
AT&T also announced a special matching-gifts initiative, exclusively for AT&T employees. If employees make a gift to Girl Scouts of the USA or any Girl Scout council between now and March 31, 2012, AT&T will match that gift dollar for dollar up to $500,000. Employee gifts made to Girl Scouts through the 2012 United Way or Employee-Giving campaigns will also be matched. AT&T employees can learn more by visiting AT&T Insider or tSpace (search “Girl Scouts Centennial”). Details about how to make a contribution are available on both internal sites and are accessible via AT&T employees' global login.
Colleen Walker, CEO of Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas noted, "The Real Girls Real Women Luncheon was a huge success because of partners like AT&T and other valued sponsors who gave wholeheartedly to support the Girl Scout Leadership Experience."
The Real Girls Real Women luncheon marked the first in a full and exciting lineup of events GSNETX and AT&T will host over the next year to mark the centennial milestone. We look forward to celebrating with you in the fall of 2012, when our 100th Anniversary celebrations will culminate with a grand Centennial Girl Scout exhibit that will be featured at the Hall of State during the State Fair of Texas, the largest state fair in the United States.
