Sample Troop Descriptions

Traditional Troop: We are an established Girl Scout troop that meets regularly through the school year. Members are encouraged to choose badges, awards and activities that give girls a broad experience. Girls will build life skills as they gain new friends.

Artistic Troop: We are an artistic troop that loves to be creative! In addition to pursuing our leadership and service activities, the girls tend to pursue more artistic badges and projects. We tend to take break each summer, resuming in the fall.

Outdoorsy Troop: Our troop loves the outdoors. We make sure to go camping at least once during the school year and will do day events if not an overnight. We camp together each summer and have a goal to sell enough cookies for horse camp each year.

Sport Troop: Our troop's girls are very active with school sports and choose Girl Scout activities that supplement those interests. We go to camp each year and the girls favor the health and activity badges. We also love to attend “Girl Scout Nights” with our local sporting teams.

Science-Loving Troop: This troop loves science! The girls love working on the STEM badges and we plan to go to Robotics Camp together this summer. The girls also have a passion for improving our community and we'll be working on our Bronze Award this year.

Troop Member Recruitment

Each year, Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas has a waiting list of girls looking for a Girl Scout troop to join. We're asking EVERY troop to consider welcoming at least 2 new girls to their troop and the Girl Scout sisterhood this year.

Note: If the number of desired number of girls provided is less than the number of currently active girls, GSNETX will default this to the number of currently active girls in the troop.

Disbanding Troop

Step 1: Wrap up any pending troop business including have any final meetings or events that have been planned or distributing any badges, patches, or cookie rewards.

Step 2: Organize and properly manage any remaining troop records, including permission slips, health history forms, etc. These may either be destroyed after the troop has completed all activities or returned to families at that time. Distribute or donate remaining troop supplies.

Step 3: Determine next steps for any troop funds. Troops are encouraged to use any remaining funds to benefit their girls as much as possible. Together with your girls, decide how you want to approach this. Some ideas might be hosting a party to celebrate the troop’s accomplishments, paying for summer or day/twilight camp, or paying for next year’s Girl Scout membership registration for any girls or adults who are continuing. The girls may also opt to donate funds to the service unit, Family Partnership, or directly to the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas. It is important to remember that money and gift cards cannot be given to individual girls or adults, per our GSNETX Volunteer Policies & Procedures. Additionally, any remaining funds should go to the troops of any girls continuing in Girl Scouts or be returned as a cashier’s check to GSNETX, Finance Department, 6001 Summerside Drive, Dallas, TX 75252.

Step 4: Communicate any well wishes or thoughts to your girls and families and close troop social media accounts as necessary.
