Girl Scout Leadership Institute

The Girl Scout Leadership Institute (GSLI), presented by Amazon, is an initiative of the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas to empower and equip high school girls to pursue higher education and expose them to a variety of career opportunities. The Institute gives girls in grades 9-12, the opportunity to visit local corporations and universities, gain access to female role models and empower girls to positively impact their communities now and in the future.

Career Exploration supports a group of Girl Scouts and usually occurs at the company’s facility. The Girl Scouts participate in group presentations, career panels, facility tours, and interactions with professionals to learn about the company, explore different careers, and learn how to prepare for a career at a company.

Job shadowing offers girls the chance to learn about a particular occupation or profession to see if it might appeal to them. In job shadowing, a business typically partners with an organization, like Girl Scouts to provide an experience for a girl as she accompanies a worker throughout their day to day work schedule. Girls ask questions, find the challenges each job has and use this experience to determine if a specific career might be right for them. The opportunity also offers networking to seek further advice, career tips, references or internships in the future.

We are beginning to plan for our summer programs of "job shadowing" and "career exploration." Programs may be virtual or in person, dependent upon our corporate partners current work environments. If you would like to participate in our summer programs, please complete this interest link. We will start reaching out with various opportunities as we get closer to the summer. Most opportunities will be in the months of June and July.

Please remember that we expect you as Girl Scouts to honor your commitment to these opportunities once you have committed to them, barring a family emergency or illness. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in cancellations of other opportunities you have registered for.
